Birds of a Feather Smoke Together
An officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with a window tint violation on March 17 at 12:51 p.m. The driver pulled into the Cracker Barrel off of Chastain Road, and the officer could smell fresh marijuana when he approached the driver side window. The officer noticed the driver and passenger were both shaking and sweating with bloodshot eyes. The driver told the officer he wasn’t sure where his driver’s license was, and the passenger admitted to having a bowl that had held marijuana on the passenger’s side floor, though there was no more marijuana in it. An officer who arrived as backup could smell marijuana on the passenger’s person and asked him to take off his shoe. He had a plastic baggy of marijuana inside of it. The officers also found a digital scale with marijuana pieces inside it and $120 cash in a pair of pants inside the car. The passenger told the officers he was supposed to be getting something from a friend’s car who works at Cracker Barrel. The officer got the employee to let them into his car. He complied, though he was reluctant. The officers located partially burnt marijuana cigarettes, a gas mask with a smoking tube pipe attached and three partially filled alcoholic beverages. The passenger and the employee were arrested, and the driver was issued a citation for his window tint violation.
The Best Policy
An officer observed a vehicle with a headlight out failing to maintain its lane on March 19 around 12 a.m. The officer followed the vehicle on George Busbee Parkway into Milstead Village apartment complex. The driver stepped out of the vehicle and was unsteady on his feet. The officer asked why he was driving so fast and the driver said he didn’t want to get in trouble for his headlight and his suspended license. After the officer placed handcuffs on him to arrest him, the driver admitted to also having marijuana in his vehicle.
Girls Will be Girls
An officer was dispatched to the University Village dorms in reference to a public peace offense on March 25 at 10:40 p.m. The caller told the officer that she had been having problems with her roommate and two males that were with the roommate. She was arguing with them, and the males wouldn’t leave the apartment when she told them to. The roommate spoke with the officer and told him that the caller had sent her a text about a missing broom, saying it would be “in their best interest” to return it. The roommate said she confronted the complainant about what “best interest” meant, and then they started yelling at each other. The officer told everyone in the apartment who was not a student or involved in the incident to leave and then stated that if he determined a crime had been committed he would obtain a warrant for that person.
