KSU Acoustic Night brought more than 100 students to the Village Center for good music and good fun. The event held on Monday, April 2 attracted students to a makeshift stage for a variety of music from 3 different bands.
The first of the evening’s three acts was Ghost Town Voyage, the solo moniker for Kennesaw State student Marcus Dean Terry.
For this performance, he joined with fellow KSU students Chuck Hill on guitar and backing vocals, Jordan Hughes on drums and bassist Tony Hossri.
Terry took the stage shoeless, with a smile that didn’t fade for the duration of the set. His demeanor personified the up-tempo guitar strumming and bouncing bassline. The subject matter, though, was reflective.
“I’m just a lonely, bitter old fool,” Terry crooned on his track ‘Cannibal,’ “but I’ve got the mic, so I’m coming for you.”
In another song, Terry told the crowd, “Don’t worry, friends, I’m not going anywhere soon.”
The performance lacked acoustic music, however, and it did not go unnoticed bythe following musician.
Ark Zaydman, of the band Take Care, Stranger, playfully asked, “This is called KSU Acoustic Night, right?” before joking to his longtime friend: “Marcus, you got it all wrong.”
Zaydman performed with just his vocals and a guitar, which complemented the lively Ghost Town Voyage.
One song in particular, ‘Gypsy Heart,’ was written for a female friend who went through a hard time: “You feel so alone, but the Lord heals more than bones,” he comforted. After a hearty round of applause, the main act took the stage.
The Icarus Account, hailing from Fort Myers, Florida, consists of twin brothers Trey and Tyler Turner.
This polished duo had the crowd at KSU Village center engaged, laughing and clapping along throughout their 11 song set.
Their music swelled with harmonies and falsetto vocals that had many ladies swooning. When they weren’t covering Nicki Minaj or Usher,
they were singing about love, marriage and couples that show too much public affection.
Sophomore Michael Tamucci had the idea for this event after he met The Icarus Account last fall: “I talked to my RA, Caleb Faille, and he got the event checked off through Residence Life.” With the go-ahead, Tamucci and Faille made this event possible.
“I just wanted to host an event with live music to see if people would enjoy it,” Tamucci said.
And enjoy it they did, KSU Acoustic Night struck the right chord with KSU students.
