KSU needs five points from the encounter to draw equal with Middle Tennessee State on the conference ladder.
KSU will also have to try and maximize the point’s differential in the match, and hope the Blue Raiders score more than 50 on Emory.
If that scenario becomes true, KSU will lock up second place in the northern sector of the Southern Independent Conference, and make club history by qualifying the school for its first ever National Division I playoffs.
It has been a challenging month for the Owls after losing 10-40 at MTSU three weeks ago. KSU turned around some questionable attitude and commitment to play strong against the highly recognized Life College undergrads.
Life had inflicted 100 point victories over both MTSU and Southern this year, and KSU held the score to 10-59, scoring the only try on Life this year. That particular try yielded a 51 yard, 18 phase drive that demonstrated fantastic ball control and poise from the forward pack.
KSU’s coaching staff considers the team has the drive, and incentive to win and win well against their southern counterparts. Beaten in Statesboro earlier this year with a depleted team, KSU will field a much stronger 23 man roster for the crucial clash.
The fledgling club will graduate six of its seniors this semester and desperately want to send them out on a high.
Anyone on campus in recent Sundays may have noticed players powering up the East Deck parking lot stairwell. This additional training introduced to raise intensity and team belief has helped the team in their quest for a chance to go playoffs in Florida in April. The KSU rugby team encourages the students and staff of the school to support Saturday’s rugby match at the Owls’ Nest sports facility, starting at 2 p.m.
