First Owls football scrimmage, blockbuster concert, and former Atlanta Falcons Coach Dan Reeves top the weekend festivities
KENNESAW, Ga. (Sept. 30, 2014) — Kicked off by Founders Day on Oct. 9, Homecoming 2014 promises to be the biggest celebration in Kennesaw State University’s 50-year history. The festivities will include football, big-name performers and a visit from former Atlanta Falcons coach Dan Reeves.
“This is Homecoming like we’ve never seen at Kennesaw State as we celebrate our past with Founders Day, our present, and our future with the first football scrimmage ” said President Daniel S. Papp. “We are looking forward to a great weekend for the students, alumni, faculty and staff, and we invite the entire community to engage with our campus and celebrate the Black & Gold.”
The festivities begin with Founders Day on Oct. 9, which marks the day the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia chartered Kennesaw Junior College.
Scheduled events for Founders Day are:
- Faculty/Staff Years of Service Recognition – 8:30 a.m., Carmichael Student Center
- Kennesaw State University Great Debate series: “The Big Thirst: Water in an Age of Scarcity,” which will explore the issues related to our stewardship of water, one of the world’s most critical resources – 12:30 p.m., Carmichael Student Center
- The Grady Palmer Distinguished Speaker Series: featuring Dan Reeves, legendary football player and head coach for three NFL teams, including the Atlanta Falcons. Reeves will speak on coaching and the key elements for success – 4 p.m., Carmichael Student Center
- This year, Homecoming at Kennesaw State will include football when the Owls take to the field in their first scrimmage on Oct. 11 at 3 p.m. in Fifth Third Bank Stadium. Gates will open at 2 p.m. with general admission seating. Parking lots, which will be on a first-come, first-served basis, will open at noon. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a free autograph book courtesy of Fifth Third Bank and will have a chance to fill up their books in an autograph session with the players.
- Later that evening, rap star Wiz Khalifa and Ty Dolla $ign will perform at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. Gates open at 7 p.m.
