Kennesaw State women’s basketball announced Wednesday it is parting ways with head coach Octavia Blue after five seasons.
Less than 24 hours after the program’s season came to an end in a 66-47 loss to Delaware in the play-in round of the Conference USA Championship tournament, KSU Athletics announced a change in leadership.
The program finished 13-17 overall, 6-12 in conference play, good for a ninth-place regular season finish.
In five seasons at the helm, Blue led the Owls to a 61-89 overall record, 35-51 in conference play.
According to official documents obtained through an open records request to the university, Blue is owed $260,000 for the final year of her contract in 2026-27.
“Kennesaw State University Director of Athletics Milton Overton announced Wednesday that Octavia Blue has concluded her tenure as head coach of the women’s basketball program. Overton determined that a change in leadership was necessary to move the program in a different direction,” the department said in its release. “A national search for the next head coach will begin immediately, with Parker Executive Search assisting in the process.”
The 2022-23 season was the highlight of Blue’s tenure, when the program finished with a winning record in conference play (10-8) for the first time since 2008-09 and its best overall record (15-16) since the 2014-15 season.
The blow of losing top producers Prencis Harden and Keiara Griffin to graduation this season was lessened by strong return campaigns from Keyarah Berry and Trynce Taylor. What defined the 2025-26 campaign, however, was a mostly inconsistent class of newcomers.
