Nicki Minaj becoming a Trump supporter was not what anyone expected entering 2026.
Nicki Minaj is an influential award-winning rapper and songwriter who has sold over 100 million records. For many fans, though, Nicki was so much more than just a singer and musician.
Her song lyrics are described as unapologetic and confident, asserting female power in the rap industry in an already predominately male world. She influenced and inspired so many different kinds of people.
Like many popular artists, she also politically influenced so many of her fans.
In a statement referring to Trump’s catch phrase from “The Apprentice,” Nicki Minaj said, “Donald Trump can say ‘You’re fired.’ Let Martha Stewart run her company the same way and be the same way!’”
Nicki has not always been known as a Trump supporter. In fact, she remained neutral about him for most of her time in the spotlight.
Many people assumed that she was a Democrat or leaned liberal due to the nature of her personality and the way that she presented herself.
In November 2015, Nicki said that she and Trump “were copacetic on a few points” but did not explain further.
10 years later, in November 2025, Nicki Minaj stood holding President Trump’s hand after he posted about the persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
She posted, “Thank you to the President and his team for taking this seriously. God Bless every persecuted Christian. Let’s remember to lift them up in prayer.”
Furthermore, at a Turning Point USA Americafest convention, Nicki Minaj was interviewed by Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk. They spoke about Nicki’s newfound support for Trump.
For many, this was the ultimate betrayal. Somebody they looked up to became a Trump supporter who endorsed his beliefs and actions.
This lead to more critical speculation from fans.
One theory rumored that Nicki Minaj used her status to obtain one of Trump’s “gold card” visas.
According to BBC, Trump’s million-dollar “gold card” is a fast-track for wealthy immigrants, such as Nicki Minaj, to get U.S. citizenship.
Her “gold card” does not make her an American citizen, but it gives her almost all of the rights that come with citizenship.
Whether or not Nicki has always been a Trump supporter, it is clear that her motivation may lie in what Trump and his “gold card” has to offer.
For many supporters of the former “Queen of Rap,” this is the ultimate betrayal.
