Baseball takes lopsided loss to Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, Ga- The Yellow Jackets defeated the Owls 11-4 Tuesday at Mac Nease Baseball Park in Atlanta.

Georgia Tech was first on the scoreboard, scoring two runs in the opening frame, and holding the Owls scoreless.

The Owls’ bats came alive in the second inning. Jackson Chirello started off the scoring for Kennesaw State in his first game back from an injury. Aaron Posey laced the ball deep into right field, scoring Chirello on an RBI double.

Shamaar McDuffie tied the game at 2-2 with a single past Georgia Tech’s second baseman, scoring Posey.

Chris Cole RBI triple scored McDuffie to make the score 3-2 in KSU’s favor before Wesley Alig drove the ball into left field, scoring Cole and gaining a 4-2 lead.

In the third inning, Tech fought to tie the game. The Yellow Jackets scored two runs on an RBI single and a rare balk: an illegal motion by the pitcher that allows each player to move to the next base.

Tied 4-4, the Yellow Jackets continued to hold the Owls down. In the bottom of the fourth, Tech took a 6-4 advantage on a two-run homerun from Kyle Lodise.

Up by two, the Yellow Jackets were far from done with the Owls. After a quiet fifth inning, Tech’s bats caught fire in the bottom of the sixth. The Yellow Jackets scored five runs on a sacrifice fly, RBI double and a two-run homerun.

Both teams held each other scoreless through the top of the ninth, giving Georgia Tech the 11-4 victory.
