Kennesaw State announced the long awaited hire of its new women’s golf coach, as former Owls’ standout student-athlete Ket Preamchuen Vanderpool was named to the position on Monday.
“I am thrilled to be back at Kennesaw State,” Vanderpool said in an athletic department press release. “This place is like home to me. I came to Kennesaw State in August 2009 as a student-athlete. Sixteen years later, I received the opportunity to come back as the head women’s golf coach. I am excited to start working with the team to prepare for the upcoming season.”
Vanderpool comes up I-75 after spending six seasons on staff at Georgia State, four as an assistant and two as the Panthers’ head coach.
Prior to her time downtown, she served on staff as an assistant at KSU from 2015-17, helping the program to the 2015 Atlantic Sun Championship and an appearance at the season’s NCAA Regional.
As a collegiate golfer at KSU from 2009-13, Vanderpool compiled one the most decorated resumes in the program’s history, being named first-team All-ASUN three times and playing a pivotal role in KSU’s first Division I NCAA Regional appearance in program history.
“Owl Nation, help me welcome Coach Vanderpool back home to the Nest!,” KSU Athletic Director Milton Overton said in the release.”Ket knows how to be a champion on the golf course and in the classroom. She embodies the spirit of Kennesaw State Athletics, understands what it means to be an Owl, and is deeply committed to the success of our student-athletes. We are thrilled to have her leading our women’s golf program into an exciting new era.”
The position had been vacant since February, when former coach Erin Thorne announced her decision to step down at the conclusion of the season after a successful four-year tenure.
