Softball swept by Louisiana Tech

The Owls hosted Louisiana Tech at Bailey Park over Easter weekend, looking to bounce back from a heartbreaking 8-7 loss against Georgia State on Tuesday night.

The series began on Thursday night, which saw the Owls failing to get any offense going.

The game was scoreless for the first five innings, until the Bulldogs broke the scoring open in the sixth on a three run home run by Reagan Marchant. The fourth run of the game was scored on an error, making the score 4-0 in favor of LT.

The sixth inning saw the game’s only scoring, resulting in a 4-0 win for the Bulldogs.

Friday’s contest saw more scoring instantly, with LT scoring the first run on an RBI single in the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead after one.

The Bulldogs extended their lead to 4-0 in the third, after a two RBI triple by Alexis Gilio and a sacrifice fly by Marchant.

The Owls answered in the bottom half of the third, on a double by JoJo Johnson and a single by Lexie Shaver, bringing the score to 4-2 after three.

LT added three more runs in the fourth on two RBI singles and a wild pitch, making the score 7-2 in favor of the Bulldogs after four.

Kennesaw State answered once again in the bottom of the fourth, first on a double byAva Guzowski then on a double by Johnson, cutting the deficit to 7-5.

The Owls ended their scoring for the inning on another RBI double, this time by Ana Gore to make the score was 7-6 LT after four.

The Bulldogs added on to their lead in the sixth on a pair of two-RBI doubles, hit by Marchant and Gilio and the LT lead increased to 11-6 at the end of the sixth inning.

The Owls didn’t respond, and the game ended in an 11-6 final victory for the Bulldogs.

The conclusion of the series on Saturday began similarly to Friday, with LT getting the scoring started early.

In the first inning, the Bulldogs scored first when Marchant hit an RBI double to take a 1-0 lead. They extended their lead further on another RBI double by Nicole Hammoude to take a 2-0 lead at the end of the first.

LT added to their lead in the third, when Hammoude hit her second RBI double of the game and gave the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead after three innings.

The game remained 3-0 until the top of the seventh, when LT’s Hammoude would be seen again, this time hitting a three-run home run, securing her fifth RBI of the game and stretching the Bulldog lead to 6-0.

Despite the Owls six hits, they failed to get any runs across and fell 6-0 as LT secured the sweep and the second shutout of the series.

The Owls will face Chattanooga at home on Wednesday night.
