On Sept. 9, 2024, Tim Cook kicked off one of Apple’s annual announcement events, titled Glowtime.
Apple introduced their first product lineup powered by “Apple Intelligence,” a new artificial intelligence system focused on enhancing user experience through machine learning.
Key features include generating summaries of calls, unread messages and “Genmoji,” which allows users to generate fun and original photos.
First on the product lineup was the Apple Watch Series 10, which features both the largest display and thinnest design of any Apple Watch. The Series 10 includes features like faster charging, media playback through built-in speakers and a wide range of intelligence and machine learning functionalities through Apple Intelligence.
The watch has an aluminum option and a titanium option, each with their own color selection. The aluminum and titanium models starts at $399 and $699 respectively.
The Apple Watch Ultra is targeted towards athletes, with great battery life, an action button perfect for workouts and the most accurate GPS in a sports watch. Some features include custom workouts, heart rate zones and pacing features.
Ultra has the ability to tell users when to push or recover during a workout, has automatic stroke detection and lap count, as well as a host of other cutting-edge features. The watch has a titanium finish in the colors natural and black, starting at $799.
The next product announced was AirPods, with significant updates to the entire product line. AirPods 4 is heavily improved with its adoption of Apple Intelligence.
Machine learning technology has brought significant updates to the device, including the ability to respond to Siri announcements with the shake of a head.
The Airpods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation is attempting to improve the listening experience with additions like including adaptive audio, transparency mode, and conversation awareness. AirPods 4 are $129 and AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation are $179.
AirPods Pro 2 include more advanced active noise cancellation, transparency mode and enhanced battery life. AirPods Pro 2 are equipped with new hearing safety measures, including hearing protection which reduces passive noises, a clinically-validated 5-minute hearing test and a personalized hearing aid, which boosts the specific sounds users need in real-time. AirPods Pro 2 are $249.
AirPods Max is available in five new colors: midnight, blue, purple, orange and starlight. IOS 18 brings new updates to the headphones, including personalized spatial audio for music, movies and games. AirPods Max remain $549.
The iPhone 16 boasts a host of new features. iPhone 16 comes in three new colors: ultramarine, teal and pink. The phone is water and dust resistant, and is the most durable iPhone yet.
It comes in 2 sizes, 6.1 inches for iPhone 16 and 6.7 inches for iPhone 16 Plus. The iPhone 16 has a brand-new action button where users can perform a variety of functions with a simple press, including translating a phrase or identifying a song. It’s powered by the new A18 chip which drives the performance of Apple Intelligence.
The iPhone 16 Pro debuts with a new design, including thinner bezels and larger displays, 6.3” on the iPhone 16 Pro and 6.9” on iPhone 16 Pro Max. The new Pro models also include a stronger, scratch-resistant titanium finish.
iPhone 16 Pro comes in 4 colors: black titanium, white titanium, natural titanium and desert titanium. Apple Intelligence will be supported by the phone’s new A18 Pro chip. Improvements have been made across photo, video and audio.
A 48mp fusion and ultra wide camera, which allows for 4K, 120 frames per second video will be included in Pro models. The phones also include audio mix, an industry first, which allows users to isolate voices of a person on camera, tuning out background noises. The iPhone 16 Pro starts at $999 and the iPhone 16 Pro Max starts at $1199.
All products in this new lineup have been available in stores since Sept. 20.
