A student died in the Austin Residence Complex on Monday, Sept. 25.
The incident is under investigation by the KSU Police Department, and the cause of death has not been released by authorities.
Amid various rumors circulating online, KSU officials say they are inaccurate. Any threat to students on campus would be handled in accordance with their emergency notification system.
“Unfortunately, a number of rumors have circulated, primarily on social media, referring to a violent crime. Those rumors are simply not true,” Kennesaw State Department of Public Safety & University Police said. “Out of respect for the student and the student’s family, we have no additional information to share.”
Residents of the Austin Residence Complex’s 900, 1000 and 1100 buildings received an email on Monday notifying them of their community member’s passing. In the email, it is noted that there is no threat to the safety and security of the campus community.
Counseling and Psychological Services are offering immediate assistance to students affected by the tragedy. Students are advised to call 470-578-6600 to immediately be connected to a licensed mental health clinician.
