Freshman point guard Simeon Cottle looks to take a huge leap next year as senior guards Terrell Burden and Spencer Rodgers are graduating after the conclusion of the 2022-23 season.
Right now, Cottle is focusing on learning from the older players on the team while they’re around to mentor him. Cottle has played an important role this season coming off the bench, giving the Owls a spark with his defense and energy. Cottle’s most notable game this season was on Nov. 14 against Brewton Parker where he supplied 15 points and 6 rebounds. He also shot 5-8 from the field and 3-4 from 3-point range. The Owls ultimately won that game by a wide margin of 95-36.
While Cottle’s focus this season has been figuring out how to spark energy for the Owls, he’s been taking lessons in leadership from his teammates such as Burden.
“Terrell has taught me how to be a leader and what it takes to be a leader,” Cottle said. “His voice and practices, during the games, knowing what it takes to do what he does taught me a lot.”
Cottle has been winning for a long time now. He was a two-time champion at Tri Cities high school in East Point, Georgia, where he averaged 25 points a game as a senior, to now being an ASUN champion with KSU.
“It’s like winning is in my DNA. I feel like everywhere I go out, I win. I hate losing. That makes me mad. I hate losing.” Cottle said.
“I want to fill in that role of being a leader, being a lead point guard and taking my team a long way just like he did,” Cottle said.
The future is bright for Cottle, who will undoubtedly have a leadership role with the Owls in the future.
