The starting point guard for Kennesaw State’s women’s basketball team was arrested Thursday, Nov. 21, for murdering an Atlanta man over the summer.
Kamiyah Street was arrested and charged with the murder of 21-year-old Nashiem Hubbard-Etienne Thursday. Street was also charged with three counts of felony murder, criminal attempt to commit armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to the AJC.
KSU Assistant Athletic Director for Communications David Beall told the AJC the KSU’s women’s basketball team was told of Street’s charges Thursday evening.
“The individual has been suspended indefinitely from all women’s basketball team and athletic activities,” Beall said. “Neither the university nor the athletic department have any additional information at this time.”
On Saturday, Nov. 23, the Atlanta Police Department confirmed Street had been arrested Thursday. Street is currently in Fulton County Jail, according to the AJC.
APD confirmed Street murdered Hubbard-Etienne, whose body was found in the Heritage Station apartment’s parking deck Tuesday, July 16, on McDaniel Street in Atlanta, according to WSB-TV.
Hubbard-Etienne was “the victim of a targeted shooting,” APD spokesman James White said to the AJC.
Street allegedly admitted to APD that she took part in the murder of Hubbard-Etienne after surveillance cameras put her at the scene of the crime, according to the AJC.
Four more people have been charged with murder in addition to Street. Cortez Banks, 22, Johnerton Gilstrap, 21 and Tobias Wells, 20, have been in jail for months now. APD is still looking for 20-year-old Dontacus Brantley.
Etienne-Hubbard’s mother, Maiyannie Hubbard-Armster, told WSB that she wants justice for her son.
“What are they going to do about this girl? Why is she still able to breathe and enjoy life as if she did nothing?” Hubbard-Armster said.
The KSU Athletics website no longer has Street listed on the roster. The website still lists Street’s statistics for the 2018-19 season.
Street scored 32 points in a 95-69 KSU win over Georgia Southern University four days before being arrested, according to the Sentinel.
Street, a KSU junior who graduated from Benjamin E. Mays High School in Atlanta, was a star player on KSU’s women’s team. Only one player on KSU’s women’s basketball team played more minutes on the court than Street — who played about 37 minutes per game. For the first four games of KSU’s 2019-20 basketball season, Street averaged 21 points and five rebounds, according to the KSU Athletics Department website.
Earlier this year, the Sentinel reported that Street became only the second player in KSU’s Division I history to be named as a First Team All-Conference selection at the Atlantic Sun Conference.
