A Board of Regents committee heard Kennesaw State’s plan on Tuesday, Feb. 12, to spend $7 million in renovations to the Stillwell Baseball Stadium.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, university officials said that the funding for the planned renovations will be coming from private and philanthropic donations.
State documents explain that the stadium was built in the 1980s and no longer meets the needs of student-athletes or game-day patrons.
According to the AJC, the first phase of the renovations would include installing new turf, a batting lane and fencing, and the second phase would include dugout improvements, space for media and concessions, expanded stadium seating for up to 1,500 guests, new venue rental space and premium seating. KSU plans to complete renovations by 2022.
A KSU master plan dating back to November 2016 originally outlined a five-year plan in which a new baseball field would be built where the club sports athletic center, known as the Owl’s Nest, is currently located.
Other details involving KSU Athletics laid out in the plan include the expansion of the football stadium and new fields for the soccer and lacrosse teams.
The campus master plan also outlines changes to other parts of the Kennesaw and Marietta campuses, including those to academic and housing projects.
