Kennesaw State’s presidential search and screening committee met with presidential candidates for the first time May 14 and 15 to learn more about their qualifications.
In an email sent to KSU faculty and staff on May 9, the committee announced that they plan to interview their final candidates and send their recommendations to the Board of Regents subcommittee later this month.
The search and screening committee also provided a link to a survey in the email for faculty and staff to provide feedback to the committee and share questions they think the committee should ask candidates during their interviews. The committee did not send this survey and email to students.
The BOR subcommittee will interview the search committee’s list of finalists before sending their own recommendations to the full BOR. According to the email, the committee hopes “that we will be in a place to have a preferred finalist(s) visit campus in late May or early June.”
The email came more than three weeks after the faculty senate sent a letter to the BOR addressing their concerns about the search process. In the letter, the faculty senate stressed that the BOR should choose more than one finalist to visit campus. They also suggested setting up a system for students, faculty and staff to be able to provide feedback after meeting with candidates for the position.
Some faculty members were disappointed with the decision to invite finalists to campus over the summer when less of the KSU community will be on campus and available to meet with them.
“A better process would have these visits occur during the [fall] semester,” said Roxanne Donovan, a psychology professor and faculty senate member. “Such a process would also include greater transparency about what the finalists would be doing on campus.”
Carolyn Carlson, assistant director of the journalism and emerging media program, said she hopes they will schedule the visits during the week the summer semester starts so that the most people possible can participate.
