The Owls ended the regular season getting swept in their final series on the road against the Texas at El Paso on Nov. 15 and Nov. 16.
With the loss in this series, the Owls ended the regular season with a 13-16 record overall, including a 10-8 record in Conference USA play. They end their inaugural season in CUSA with the fourth seed among their conference opponents, as they prepare to participate in the CUSA Volleyball Championship.
Junior outside hitter Manu Johnsenled the Owls in kills for the series with 24, while also totaling one ace, one block and four digs.
Redshirt sophomore setterKourtney Brown led the Owls with three aces, while also adding on 26 assists.
Redshirt sophomore middle blocker Olivia Burrage led the Owls with seven blocks, while also tallying three kills.
FreshmanKaeley Walz led the Owls with 33 assists, while also collecting one ace and eight digs.
Junior defensive specialistLeah Freeman led the Owls with 27 digs, while also earning four assists and one ace.
On the season, Johnsen led the team in kills with 414, and aces with 38, while also ranking second on the team in digs (264) and fourth in assists (27) and blocks (41).
Freeman led the team in digs with 392, while also placing third on the team in assists (90) and aces (24).
Burrage led the team in blocks with 95, while also being second on the team in kills (224).
Walz led the team in assists with 569, while also reaching fourth on the team in digs (180) and aces (22).
Three other Owls players were ranked within the top five in multiple season stats.
Brown finished the season with the second most assists (498) and aces (36), and ranked fifth in digs (124).
Junior outside hitter Caroline Chastang ranked third in kills (211) and digs (222).
Freshman outside/right side hitter Kiernan Stamey ranked third in blocks (64) and fourth in kills (188).
With the regular season wrapped up, the Owls will now head to El Paso, Texas, where UTEP will serve as host of the CUSA Volleyball Championship.
They faced fifth-seed Middle Tennessee State in the second match of the tournament at 2 p.m. on Nov 22, and came out victorious, 3-2.
By winning the matchup, the Owls will go on to face the top-seeded Western Kentucky
WKU went 25-6 on the season, including going 18-0 in conference play, and ended their season on a 21 game winning streak. The Owls were swept by WKU in their lone series of the season.
The CUSA conference champion will be crowned on Nov 24. at 12 p.m. during the tournament’s championship match.
