Women’s Basketball Dismantles Erskine

Starting guard Keyarah Berry led Kennesaw State with 24 points as the Owls dominated the Erskine Flying Fleet in a 94–44 victory on their home court Saturday evening.

“I thought it was a great game for (the team) to get their confidence back, and to really hone in on what they do best,” said coach Octavia Blue. “This was a really good one to get here at home and we’re gonna enjoy it for a little bit.”

Berry tied her career high in points and set a new career-high with nine made baskets on the night.

Prencis Harden had a productive night as well, putting up 21 points of her own to go along with 11 rebounds. It was her second double-double of the season and 13th of her career.

Nearly three of the Owls broke the 20-point threshold. Keiara Griffin finished with 18 points, going 8-for-9 from the field.

“We had balanced scoring,”  Blue said. “As you can see, we have multiple weapons on any given night that we are able to utilize.”

KSU took hold of a firm lead early on, going up 16-0 through the first five minutes of the game. Erskine managed a response drawing within 19-10 going into the second quarter.

The Owls kept pouring it on however, going on a 15-0 run to start off the second quarter. The Flying Fleet would not get closer than within 21 points of the Owls for the rest of the game.

Points off turnovers helped the Owls run away with this one. The Flying Fleet turned the ball over a whopping 24 times, with the Owls scoring 32 points off those errors.

Both teams were fairly cold from three, with KSU going 4-for-18 beyond the arc and Erskine shooting an even more inaccurate 2-for-24.

The Owls, though, didn’t have much use for three-point shooting, scoring 60 of their 94 points down in the paint.

Next the Owls will travel to San Jose State on Nov. 21, to face off against the Spartans in California. It’s the first game of a 5-game road stretch that won’t see them return to the Convocation center until Dec. 19, when they host Georgia State.
