Soccer fell 3-2 to Eastern Washington at Fifth Third Stadium in a game that was called off early due to lightning on Sunday afternoon.
Like their first match against Mercer, the Owls got off to a strong start scoring early in the fifth-minute, when Macie Rainwater found the back of the net off an assist from Tianna Rivera.
EWU caught a break when a foul was called inside the 18-yard box on KSU’s Mai Jensen, resulting in a penalty kick.
Eagle’s forward Charity Freeman scored the penalty kick, tying the score at 1-1 in the 12th-minute. Neither team scored for the rest of the first half, resulting in a 1-1 tie going into the halftime locker room.
The second half was quite eventful, with three goals scored.
EWU got off to a strong start, scoring five minutes into the second half. Defender Riley Arribas scored the goal off of a corner kick to take a 2-1 lead in the 51st-minute.
The Eagles extended their lead to 3-1 off of a Gillian Martin goal that was assisted by Arribas in the 58th-minute.
The Owls responded less than two minutes later with Rainwater’s second goal of the contest off an assist from Rivera, cutting the deficit to 3-2 at the 59th-minute mark.
As the Owls were attempting a comeback, the game was stopped with eight minutes left due to the inclement weather in the area. After a few minutes, the game was called. As a result, the Owls fell 3-2 to EWU, falling to 0-2 on the season.
The Owls traveled to face Georgia Southern on Aug. 22, 2024. They fell 2-0, to drop to 0-3 on the season.
