Alasia Franklin, 21, was identified as the female Kennesaw State student who was fatally shot on Saturday, May 18.
KSU officials identified Samuel Harris as the suspect who shot and killed a female Kennesaw State student.
He attended Cairo High School along with Franklin and was a part of their varsity football team.
Harris was charged with murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm after the Saturday dispute.
According to Harris’ booking information from the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, he was arrested approximately 11 miles from campus.
Cobb County police detained Harris before an all-clear was issued to people on the Kennesaw campus at 4:43 p.m.
On Saturday, May 18 at 4:07 p.m., KSU issued a shelter-in-place order for everyone stating that there was an armed intruder on the Kennesaw campus.
At 4:43 p.m., the university issued an all-clear saying a person was shot, but the suspect was “no longer a threat to campus.”
An email from KSU Alerts was sent approximately three hours later confirming that a “female student was fatally shot on campus.”
Franklin was a junior majoring in Integrated Health Sciences and minoring in Medical Sociology, and was a founding member of the Integrated Health Science Club at KSU.
She also played basketball in her free time and was a member of her high school varsity team in Cairo, GA.
Franklin was a member of the Student Government Association, where she served as a senator of junior students.
“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the victim’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time,” KSU President Kathy Schwaig said.
The Sentinel reached out to the GBI for a statement but was told KSU is handling all communication on this case.
