Raheem Morris makes his return to Atlanta as he was hired as head coach by the Falcons on Jan. 25 after an extensive interviewing process.
Morris was previously a defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams from 2021 to 2023. During his tenure with the Rams, the former defensive coordinator guided the defense to a Super Bowl victory in 2021 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Prior to becoming the Ram’s defensive coordinator, Morris served as a coordinator defensive passing coach and wide receivers coach from 2016 to 2019 before getting promoted to defensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons.
The former defensive coordinator also served as an interim head coach for the Falcons in the 2020 NFL Regular Season. During his tenure as an interim coach, Morris went 4-7 while replacing Dan Quinn.
Morris will take the position of previous Falcons Head Coach Arthur Smith as he looks to turn the Falcons around.
Former Rams Quarterback Coach Zac Robinson followed Morris to Atlanta as he was named the Falcons offensive coordinator.
Robinson started with the Rams in 2019 as an assistant quarterback coach and was switched to an assistant wide receiver coach in 2020.
The offensive coordinator returned as an assistant quarterback coach in 2021 and later advanced to the quarterback coach in 2022 working with Matthew Stafford primarily.
Robinson looks to elevate the Falcon’s offense, primarily their quarterback play as they struggled to perform at a high level last season.
Former Rams Assistant Coach Jimmy Lake will reunite with Morris, as he was recently named the new defensive coordinator for the Falcons. Lake worked alongside Morris while coaching for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Lake received head coaching experience on the collegiate level for the University of Washington from 2020 to 2021.
The former college football head coach was also the defensive coordinator for six years before becoming the head coach of the team.
With the new acquisitions of the coaches, the Atlanta Falcons are looking to have a turnaround season after having three consecutive 7-10 seasons.
