The Owls endured a losing streak to Ole Miss, Pittsburgh and ETSU in the tournament competition.
The Owls hosted the Kennesaw State Tournament and were unsuccessful in securing a win out of all five games that they competed in during the Feb. 16-18 weekend at Bailey Park.
KSU played Ole Miss first and fell 3-1 against the Rebels. The Owls gave up a home run in the first inning, which put them into an early deficit of 2-0.
KSU’s offense struggled to gain momentum as they were scoreless until the sixth inning. The Owls chipped into the deficit, 2-1 with a run by Ava Guzowski, but Ole Miss scored in the ninth inning, ending the game 3-1.
The Owls followed up with another 9-6 loss to ETSU.
ETSU scored first, which gave them a 1-0 lead in the first inning. KSU responded with a run by Stella Henry, which tied the score 1-1.
KSU scored in the third inning and broke the tie at 2-1 with a score by Ty Hardeman; however, the Owls’ momentum couldn’t withstand ETSU’s comeback throughout the next two innings.
The Buccaneers scored twice to regain the lead 3-2 and never looked back, as they scored four times in the fifth inning, which extended their lead to 7-2 before the sixth inning.
Kiera Cooper scored for the Owls in the sixth inning before ETSU scored twice, which brought them up 9-3.
Henry Cooper and Peri Rouillard each scored in the seventh inning and closed the game at 9-6.
In the third game, the Owls weren’t able to redeem themselves after a heartbreaker loss of 14-5 in a rematch against Ole Miss.
The Owls didn’t stand a chance against the Rebels, as they continued their momentum and scored three straight times in the sixth inning, concluding the game at 14-5.
In the second-to-last game of the tournament, KSU fell short to Pittsburgh 4-3.
The Owls began the first inning with a Henry run. Pittsburgh responded by scoring twice in the second inning and took the lead 2-1.
Although neither team would score in the seventh or eighth inning, Pittsburgh scored in the ninth inning to win the game 4-3.
KSU closed out the tournament with an 8-6 losing rematch to ETSU.
The Buccaneers scored five consecutive times in the first four innings, creating a 5-0 lead. However, the Owls ended the scoring run when Kassidy Amerson-Fox scored in the fourth inning.
KSU continued the momentum with a fifth inning homerun from Amerson-Fox and minimized the deficit to 5-4, along with Madison Miller, who scored in the seventh inning and tied the game at 5-5.
The Buccaneers scored three times in the final inning to take an 8-5 lead and the Owls ended the game with a run from Guzowski.
