Kennesaw State University unveiled a new name for the Academic Learning Center at the beginning of February to honor one of the University’s largest benefactors.
The newly-named Morgan and Bailey Academic Learning Center is named after sisters Audrey Morgan and her late sister Dr. Bobbie Bailey. Through Morgan, Bailey and the Bobbie Bailey Foundation, more than $17 million has been donated to KSU, designating the family as one of the largest donors in KSU history.
Dr. Audrey Morgan expresses the honor of having the building being named after her and her sister Dr. Bobbie Bailey.
“When my sister and I started our foundation, our stated purpose was education, healthcare, and arts, and human services, and over the years, we have supported all these areas,” Dr. Morgan said during her speech, according to a KSU press release. “But from the start, our focus and our major support has always been education. All of us know that education has the ability to transform lives, and the transformation is not in just that one life, but the impact will be compounded over the years by the contributions they’ll make in their families, in their communities and in our society.”
Dr. Bailey has served on the Kennesaw State Foundation Board of Trusteesfor over 20 years. Her passion for music and sports led to the endowment of the Bailey Performance Center, the donation of 44 Steinway pianos for the university’s music program and the naming of the Bobbie Bailey Athletic Complex and Bailey Park.
Through the sisters’ philanthropic efforts, many students can pursue scholarships in their name. The Bobbie Bailey Foundation offers scholarships for students in the Journey Honors College, nursing, athletics, and music.
The ALC opened its doors in 2022 and houses 20 classrooms, 12 seminar rooms, 11 group study rooms, and 4,600 square feet of suite space for the KSU Journey Honors College.
In addition, the ALC also houses the Office of Undergraduate Research, where students and faculty have access to high-quality research facilities and resources.
Other departments within the ALC include Global Education, the Department of Career Planning and Development, Student-Athlete Success Servicesand the SMART ( Science and Math Academic Resource and Tutoring) Center.
