Kennesaw State’s yearly Pumpkin Launch took place Oct. 26 at the Marietta campus’ Neusoft Technologies Field.
Lasting from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., this year marked the 13th occasion of this event. As with each prior instance, the Pumpkin Launch sees various engineering students come together to compete in building the best pumpkin-pitching device.
The first hour of the event started off quietly with food trucks and activities for attendees, with Kona Ice representing the former and the chance to stuff pumpkins representing the latter. Also present was a tent providing free flu shots.
The event started properly at 3 p.m., with participants initially using this time to conduct some last-minute checks on all of their equipment and perform basic tests of their designs. Meanwhile, organizers spent this early time to ensure that the field was clear of any and all obstructions.
Once all parties had completed their preliminary work, the event got underway. Several different designs were used for the event, with the catapult being the most common among them all. Some more unconventional designs made an appearance, like a spider-like robot that carried a jack-o’-lantern.
This event was sponsored by several local organizations, including Marietta NDT, Henssler Financial and GeoSurvey.
