Soccer continues to struggle to get on the board in draw.
Women’s soccer could not break its scoreless streak on Thursday, Sept. 21 in another 0-0 draw against the Bellarmine Knights at the Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
After beginning their conference slate with two lopsided losses, the Owls would finally enjoy a better result at home. Bellarmine was the first to threaten in the first ten minutes of the game but was stopped by Owls’ Goalkeeper Allanah Blye at the top of the 18-yard box.
Tianna Rivera would respond just a few minutes later for the Owls when she put the first shot on goal with 33:35 left to play in the first half.
Throughout the rest of the first period, it would be the Knights with the majority of the chances. Just a few minutes before the break, Bellarmine’s Clara Spurlock would put a shot grazing over the top right corner of the goal.
The second half would include far more activity from the Owls on the attacking side. KSU controlled possession for most of the period and had nearly all of the looks.
The biggest negative of the half for the Owls would be Aila Swinton picking up her first yellow card of the season.
Bellarmine would get their first opportunity late in the half when Spurlock put a ball on goal that was saved with ease by Blye.
The Owls would respond with their best look of the night. With just over five minutes to play, a Bellarmine clearance found its way to Swinton from about 40 yards out. Bellarmine’s keeper Cambria Kingman was towards the edge of the 18-yard box when Swinton kicked the ball from distance. Unfortunately for the Owls, Kingman was able to retreat in time to keep the Owls out of the net.
With just a minute left to play, Bellarmine’s final shot would harmlessly hit the crossbar concluding the score at 0-0.
