Best of KSU: Tennis ASUN Conference

The men’s team made it up to the ASUN Conference Semifinals while the women’s team soared to the ASUN Conference Quarterfinals.

Both teams were defeated by FGCU in their respective rounds in the ASUN Conference.

On Friday, April 21, the men’s team fell 4-0 to FGCU at the UNF Tennis Complex.

Although KSU won court two in a 7-5 victory by Anthony Weingarten and Seru Tezuka, FGCU won the doubles points on lines three and one.

FGCU nabbed the doubles point and three singles points to obtain the victory.

In hopes of rallying back, Raul Garcia and Hugo Salmeron strived to remain in the game for KSU. Garcia went head to head against ASUN Player of the Year Magnus Johnson, winning the first set 7-5. Garcia tied Johnson in the second set 4-4. 

Salmeron won the first set and had an advantage of 7-6 in the third set when the match was called.

The men’s team’s overall record was 14-8 this season. The team also went 5-3 in their conference.

The women’s team was defeated 4-1 in their matchup with the Eagles.

In the singles match, FGCU’s Emma Bardet prevailed against Taylor Deanwith a score of 6-2, 6-3. The Owls’ Sofia Madrid defended KSU againstIsabella Colmenares, ending the contest with 6-0, 6-0.

In the doubles competition, Taylor Dean and Ji Youn Lee teamed up in an attempt to make a comeback for KSU. Dean and Lee competed against Bardet and Ferding but were ultimately defeated 6-3.

The women’s team’s overall record was 11-7 while their conference record was also 5-3.
