As the 2023 football season approaches, new off-season additions have garnered a promising outlook with the reveal of the Owls’ schedule.
The Owls have obtained veteran coach, Chris Klenakis, as their new offensive coordinator. Notably, Klenakis has previously coached Lamar Jackson and Colin Kaepernick. Jackson and Kaepernick are two of three players in FBS history to rush for 50 touchdowns and pass for 50 touchdowns in a career.
Defensively, the Owls have brought in Nathan Burton to take over as the defensive coordinator. Previously, Burton worked at the Power Five level. Burton has over 15 years of experience coaching football.
KSU’s season is set to start Thursday, Aug. 31 against the Tusculum Pioneersat Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
The following week, KSU goes on the road for the first time to face University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on Sept. 9 at Finley Stadium. This will be the first meeting between the Owls and the Mocs.
On Sept. 16, the Owls welcome the Furman Paladins in their first matchup since 2016. In their previous encounter, KSU defeated the Paladins in Greenville, S.C.KSU has back-to-back road trips against Tennessee Tech on Sept. 23 and Charleston Southern on Sept. 30. With a combined record, KSU is 8-2 over both teams.
The Owls prepare to meet Tennessee State University on Oct. 7 and Lincoln (CA) University on Oct. 28 for the first time. October tends to be KSU’s winningest month as the Owls have a 25-4 record in the month of October over the course of eight seasons.
KSU will compete against their future Conference USA opponent, Sam Houston State, in its last road trip of the season on Nov. 4 in Huntsville, TX. This will be a repeat matchup as the Owls and Bearkats met initially in the 2017 FCS Quarterfinals at Bowers Stadium.
To wrap up the season, KSU faces Virginia-Lynchburg in the final home game of the season on Nov. 11. Under Coach Bohannon, during the month of November, the Owls are 20-6 while the team is 41-7 when playing at home.
The team is currently having Spring Practice from March 15 to April 14. The Spring Game will be Friday, April 14 at 7 p.m. in Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
