After sweeping the Long Island University Sharks to end February with a 5-1 record, Kennesaw State Baseball began the meat of its schedule with a cross-town matchup with Georgia Tech in Atlanta on March 1.
Despite their best efforts, the Owls fell short of pulling the upset, falling 4-5 to the Yellow Jackets.
The Owls would stay cold when Boston College came into town for a 3-game series. The Eagles would take both games of the doubleheader on March 4 and finish the series sweep on March 5 with a 5-1 victory.
March 7 saw the Owls take another trip down to the state capital to face rival Georgia State.
The bats would finally come alive for KSU, but it wouldn’t be enough to tame the Panthers who handed the Owls a 14-8 defeat.
Desperate for a win, the Owls welcomed the Michigan Wolverines and UAB Blazers to town for the Mike Sansing Classic.
On March 10, KSU won the first game against Michigan 4-3 thanks to Blake Wehunt‘s 6+ inning outing, surrendering only three runs and just one earned.
The next day the Owls kept rolling with another 4-3 win, this time defeating UAB behind multi-hit games from both Zac Corbin and Donovan Cash.
Unfortunately, due to inclement weather, both games scheduled for March 12 were canceled.
Returning to play on March 14, the Owls took on yet another in-state opponent, the Georgia Southern Eagles. KSU would not disappoint during their trip to Statesboro, leaving with a third straight 4-3 victory.
Before beginning conference play, the Owls welcomed one more Big 10 opponent to Stillwell. This time being the Rutgers Scarlett Knights.
Despite a late comeback attempt in the bottom of the ninth, the Owls would fall 4-5 on March 15.
Conference play got underway for the Owls in DeLand, Florida, with a three game series against the Stetson Hatters.
Stetson would sweep KSU despite two of the three games being decided by only a single run.
Before resuming ASUN competition, the Owls would host the Clemson Tigers of the ACC for a single game. The Owls would fall 2-6 on March 22.
Things finally got back on track for KSU when the Eastern Kentucky Colonels came to town for the Owls’ first conference home series.
The bats would come alive in the opening two games, with the Owls claiming 10-7 and 11-4 wins against the Colonels.
Sunday, March 26’s closing game saw KSU complete the sweep with a 5-4 victory backed by a two hit, one RBI day from second baseman Wade Richardson.
The Owls will close out the month of March by hosting in-state rival Mercer at Stillwell Stadium on March 29 as well as travel to Jacksonville, Alabama on March 31 to kick off a three game series against one of their biggest rivals, Jacksonville State Gamecocks.
