Kennesaw State’s Department of Public Safety and University Police released their crime log for the month of February.
A total of 39 incidents were listed, with seven occurring on the Marietta campus and the remaining 31 taking place on the Kennesaw campus. Of those incidents, the disposition, or current outcome, of eight is currently unresolved. Three were cleared by arrest.
Property-related incidents were the most common in February, with 16 incidents reported: this marks an increase from the 11 property incidents reported in January. Damage to private property was the most common offense, with six instances on the Kennesaw campus and one at the Marietta campus. The Austin Residential Complex, the Kennesaw Hall lobby, KSU Place, West Deck and Lot A were the areas afflicted on the Kennesaw campus. The incident at Marietta occurred at their parking deck.
Eight theft incidents occurred, all on the Kennesaw campus. An incident of theft by deception took place on Feb. 14 at KSU Place Building 400, while an incident of theft from a motor vehicle occurred on Feb. 27 at the Central Parking Deck. An instance of bicycle theft occurred on Feb. 5 at KSU Place Building 300 and a general theft took place at the Convocation Center on Feb. 10. Four instances of thefts from buildings also occurred: at The Summit, the Academic Learning Center, the Siegel Recreational Center and the last occurring at University Village Building 2000.
Nine incidents relating to public order occurred, with two occurring on the Marietta campus and the remaining seven taking place at Kennesaw. Both Marietta incidents were offenses relating to criminal trespassing. The seven incidents on the Kennesaw Campus were also trespass-related.
Seven of the incidents were Violations of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act, which penalizes the “purchase, possession, manufacture, distribution or sale of controlled substances.” One instance occurred on the Marietta campus and six took place on the Kennesaw campus.
Five “against person” incidents were recorded in February with three on the Kennesaw campus and two at Marietta. Both campuses had instances of sexual battery, with the Marietta incident taking place at the Atrium Building on Feb. 15 and the Kennesaw instance occurring at the English Building a week prior. Both instances also saw instances of harassing communications, at Marietta’s Courtyard Apartment Building 2000 and at Summit 1000 for the Kennesaw campus. Feb. 20 reported an instance of battery take place at University Village Building 2000.
Four “against society” incidents occurred last month, all at the Kennesaw campus. Three were instances of a minor possessing alcohol: the first at The Summitt on Feb. 2, the second at University Village Building 2000 on Feb. 17 and the final taking place on Feb. 25 at University Building 5000. The fourth against society incident was a DUI at Busbee Drive on Feb. 7.
One sex offensetook place on Feb. 28 at the Austin Residential Complex, listed as “forcible fondling” on the crime log.
An incident at Wilson Student Center on Feb. 24 is listed as “Other Arrest.” while an incident on the Kennesaw campus’ East Deck has no specific offense mentioned.
