Miracle at Kennesaw State is scheduled to host its annual Dance Marathon on April 15, 2023, at the Woodstock City Church in Woodstock, Georgia; registration and donations are open up to the day of the event.
The Dance Marathon is an annual fundraising event hosted by KSU’s chapter of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals that raises funds for the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, specifically the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center.
According to Miracle at KSU’s website, the 12-hour Dance Marathon allows participants to hear Miracle stories, learn a dance, raise money and change kids’ health and futures.
This year’s fundraising goal is $150,000, Miracle at KSU’s Internal Director Ahna Levausser said. The student-run philanthropy’s goal is to raise more money than last year, which was $130,000. The Dance Marathon is a recurring annual event and the KSU chapter has had it going on for over a decade.
The organization opened up registration to the public several months in advance. The reason for this is that the Dance Marathon is a 12-hour event and understands that participants would need to plan out their day.
“We’d like to get the word out there early rather than later, just so people can plan for it because it is a long day,” Morale Co-Chair Macey Lawrence said.
At the marathon, children and their families who benefited from Miracle’s donations get to tell their stories and dance with other participants.
“When you see the kids, you hear what they go through on a daily basis and know that your money helps them and their family out in a stressful situation,” said Morale Co-Chair Braden Bane. “Nothing beats it. That’s why I came back again for another year.”
The Dance Marathon is not the only upcoming fundraising event. Miracle at KSU sets up multiple fundraising opportunities that go towards their monetary goal. One recent event was Wagon Day, which was hosted to fund the wagons used at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. The organization continuously hosts similar events between now and up until the Dance Marathon.
Other Miracle chapters are at other colleges and universities, said Levausser. Each chapter raises funds for a specific hospital, with KSU’s being the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center at the Egleston campus.
“I live, eat, sleep, breathe Miracle, and it’s super important to me and a lot of other people as well,” Levausser said. “We want to get the word out to our campus and get more people involved.”
