The KSUPD crime log reported thirty incidents on the Kennesaw campus and eight on the Marietta campus through the month of January.
The most frequent incident reported was criminal trespass warnings, which occurred six times. Six incidents of criminal trespass warnings were also recorded in the December crime log.
Four trespassing incidents were closed; one was charged with arrest and one was listed as pending information. Criminal trespassing is a misdemeanor offense that occurs when an individual enters another person’s property without consent or causes damage to property resulting in $500 or less in damages.
Three of the criminal trespass warnings happened on the Marietta campus in the Engineering Lab building, Johnson Library and Courtyard Apartments. The other three happened on the Kennesaw Campus in Austin residential, Summit 1000 residential facility and Frey Road. None on the Kennesaw campus occurred in educational buildings.
The second most frequent incident was damage to private property, which occurred four times. All cases related to private property damage are closed. Damage to property of the first degree is when a person knowingly interferes with property in a way that endangers human life or uses force or violence to interfere with operations of public services such as public transportation or water supply, etc.
It is unknown to what degree these four charges were but all four occurred in parking decks or lots including the North, Central, and West parking decks. In December, only two damage to private property incidents were recorded, one on each campus.
At two charges each, the third most common incidents were traffic arrests, theft from buildings, and violations of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act. None of these charges resulted in an arrest. The Georgia Controlled Substances Act considers any possession of a controlled substance to be a misdemeanor or a felony depending on the classification of the drug. The act separates drugs into five levels based on how dangerous and addictive the drug is.
Four incidents resulted in arrests over the month. This list of charges includes a minor in possession of alcohol, a DUI, a traffic arrest and a criminal trespass warning. Out of the 30 charges over the month, only one case is still open and two are closed pending further information.
In comparison to December, the January crime log has more incidents recorded. 20 charges were recorded in December with six charges that occurred on the Marietta campus and 14 on the Kennesaw campus. While the charge rate increased across campuses in January, more still occurred on the Kennesaw campus during both months.
