Kennesaw State Basketball has had its fair share of victories and losses as the season is in full swing for the Men’s and Women’s teams.
KSU Men’s Basketball currently sits at a record of 4-3 as of Nov. 28 and has played against very tough contenders thus far in the season.
In the home opener for the Men’s team, the Owls won their third straight season opener against LaGrange while also scoring the seventh most point in a game in KSU history. KSU defeated LaGrange in a 99-56 victory.
One of KSU’s biggest competitors came early in the season. The Owls hit the road to play the Florida Gators on Nov. 11. KSU put up a well-battled fight, but could not wear down the Gators, dropping the game with a final score of 88-78.
KSU moved up to 2-1 with their powerhouse win against Brewton-Parker. The Men’s team dropped nothing but the net, knocking down 15 buckets behind the arc. The team also set a school record defensively, holding Brewton-Parker to only 36 points in the 95-36 victory. This 59-point win margin marked KSU’s second-largest win margin in school history and the largest ever win margin as a Division I program.
Over Thanksgiving Break, KSU fell to VCU in a rough game for both teams. Both KSU and VCU had trouble with shooting percentage as they were unable to overcome a 50 percent shooting from the free throw line. The game ended with VCU taking the win with a 64-61 final score.
The men’s team will have three road games coming up against Mercer (Dec. 2), Charleston Southern (Dec. 5) and San Diego State (Dec. 12). The team will then return home for two games against Georgia College (Dec. 17) and USC Upstate (Dec 20).
Starting on Dec. 31, the men’s team will begin their run of battling their ASUN opponents.
The Women’s Basketball team currently has an overall record of 1-4 as of Nov. 28.
The KSU women’s basketball team opened up their season with Ole Miss. The game was incredibly intense the entire way through. Although the Owls led Ole Miss in the first quarter, the team eventually dropped the game resulting in a score of 72-60.
The women’s team gained their first win against Middle Georgia State in a 100-57 win. KSU tied the program record for points scored in a game with this victory. This has been the second time the women’s team posted 100 or more points in its Division I history, both stemming from the leadership under Coach Octavia Blue.
KSU also competed against Chattanooga on the road over the break on Nov. 21. Throughout the contest, KSU strived to keep up with Chattanooga but ultimately fell to UTC in a 72-59 loss.
The women’s team will be on the road to Florida with Florida Atlantic (Dec. 2) and Florida International (Dec. 4) before returning home to play Georgia State on Dec 10.
The women’s basketball team will kickstart their ASUN run on Jan. 2.
Both teams have the offensive elements needed to dominate opponents. As the season progresses, the Owls have to make adjustments defensively to secure future games that they have a strong chance of winning to turn things around for the remainder of their seasons.
