Kennesaw State Volleyball fell to ASUN opponent Florida Gulf Coast University 3-1 on Saturday evening at home in the Convocation Center.
This loss snapped KSU’s 15-game home win streak. This season’s Owls were just shy of one more win to break the longest streak in school history. The Owls posted a .367 hitting percentage in the first set, .237 in set two, just a .135 hitting percentage in the third set and finished the game with .071 in set four. KSU completed with .190 for the game.
KSU ignited the competition in set one, scoring seven of the first eight points. This earned the Owls a 7-1 advantage. KSU had an extensive lead over FGCU and closed out the set with an 8-point win.
With the arrival of set two, the Eagles put pressure on the Owls as FGCU went up 5-1. KSU tried their best to answer back, but ultimately fell to the Eagles 15-13 in set two.
Set three looked to be falling in favor of the Owls as the team went from a 7-1 run up to 14-8. Manu Johnsen pushed the Owls to 19-15 with a kill. KSU was only six points from running away with the set, but the Eagles intensified their game.
FGCU went on a 5-0 run to put the Eagles ahead. The score tied twice at 20-20 and again at 21-21, however, FGCU pulled away with the lead after utilizing KSU’s mistakes. The Eagles won the set 25-22.
In the final set, FGCU took an early advantage of 8-2 and restricted an Owl comeback.
The last loss that the Owls have seen in the Convocation Center was against South Carolina on Sept. 9 where KSU fell 3-0.
Johnsen led the offense with a double-double of 17 kills and 11 digs. Johnsen also put up three blocks.
Emma Schurfranz added 10 digs and Lanie Vantrease tailed her 14-kill night with 11 kills against FGCU.
Shelby Dennis put up 17 digs – a team-high – while McKinley Ferguson completed with 39 assists.
KSU will travel to one of ASUN’s newest members, Austin Peay, on Friday, Nov. 4 at 7 PM in Clarksville, TN.
