Kennesaw State Sturgis Library’s virtual book display has gotten a spooky addition for the holiday.
Themed displays are a great way to showcase your collection and entice visitors to your library. However, making it virtual opens a whole new door for accessibility and that is exactly what the KSU Library accomplishes with this website.
The “Get Your Ghost On” tab of the book display is split up into two sections: “Watch” and “Read.” And yes, they are as direct as they sound. The “Watch” section provides links to horror movies and creepy short films, and “Read” provides links to PDFs of interesting stories to read.
One of the options they had to watch was an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s “A Tell-Tale Heart,” directed by Clay Yurdin, which is a classic for horror fans everywhere.
They have a lot of other options as well, like “Nosferatu” and some other styles like the docuseries “Tony Robinson’s Gods and Monsters,” which includes about 40-minute episodes where Tony Robinson goes and learns about chilling topics from witches to demons to the undead.
Even though the spooky season is coming to an end, the Virtual Library has a range of other themed sections that are just as entertaining and informational. They have tabs on the Moon landing, Juneteenth, Native American heritage and many more.
A most exciting discovery is the “Women in the Arts” tab. Josephine Baker has a documentary on her in the section and they also have a great read on Frida Kahlo.
This is another spectacular tool the library offers for anyone on or off campus. They are updated quite often so there is no concern about the information being irrelevant to the times. It is a great asset for anyone who needs it.
To visit the Virtual Book Display for yourself, visit the Library’s website. The Sturgis Library is also open from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 1 to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
