Kennesaw State Baseball has welcomed two new members to its staff ahead of the 2023 season.
Brad Tyler will be joining the organization as an assistant coach, while KSU baseball alumni Terence Norman has joined as the Director of Baseball Operations.
Norman, a Kennesaw native and graduate of Kennesaw Mountain High School, was an outfielder for KSU baseball from 2017-2021. In his time here, he was a two-time First Team all-ASUN selection and was named an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar. Norman played 199 games for KSU, the eighth most in program history, and had 186 starts. He also currently holds the 11th-highest batting average in Kennesaw baseball program history with a .326, fourth in hits with 236, sixth in RBIs with 131 and ninth in home runs with 17.
“I enjoyed every minute of my student-athlete experience here at Kennesaw State,” Norman said. “I am super thankful to have the opportunity to stay involved and give back to such an outstanding program. We are looking forward to another great season.”
Tyler comes to Kennesaw State after spending the past season with the MLB’s Miami Marlins as an Area Supervisor. Previously, he spent 13 years as a scout for the Cleveland Guardians, formerly known as the Indians. At KSU, Tyler will work with the outfielders and hitters while also assisting in the recruiting process.
Collegiately, Tyler played for the University of Evansville from 1988-1990 and was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the sixth round of the 1990 MLB draft. Throughout his career, he played AAA for the Atlanta Braves, Oakland A’s, Milwaukee Brewers, Cincinnati Reds and Los Angeles Dodgers. He retired in 2002 before returning to college at Indiana Wesleyan where he graduated in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Management.
“To join such a great team of coaches and a program with a rich history of turning out winning seasons and Major league players is an opportunity I could not pass up,” Tyler said. “I leave behind 28 years of professional baseball experience but to get back on the field again and impact the lives of young men is very exciting.”
Head coach Ryan Coe made the announcement about the two new hires on Oct. 17, noting the experience both Norman and Tyler will bring to the program moving forward.
“Brad brings over 20 years of professional baseball experience to our team and will make an immediate impact within our clubhouse,” Coe said. “Looking at Terence, he was a student-athlete who excelled here at Kennesaw State and understands the expectations of our program. Both of these guys will play a part in the growth and development of our baseball team.”
While the full schedule for the 2023 season has yet to be announced, ASUN conference play will begin on March 17 with a three-game series against Stetson. The home conference play opener will be on March 24 against Eastern Kentucky.
