The men’s golf team finished in eighth place at the J.T. Poston Invitational at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley on Monday, Sept. 26.
The team was led by Hugo Lari through the opening 36 holes.
The Owls were crowned eighth place following the 5-over par rounds of 289 for a 10-over par total of 578.
Coastal Carolina led all 17 teams on the field at 4-under par 564.
Sophomore Lari carded a pair of 1-under par rounds of 70 while tying for fifth at 2-under par 140. He achieved nine birdies and 10 pars during the opening 36 holes in the event. Lari led the field in the par-4 scoring average at 4-under par.
Freshman Shaun Cook also played a great game as well opening the season. He played rounds of 71-71 for an even par total of 142. Cook tied for ninth and finished with eight birdies and 21 pars on Monday.
In the afternoon round, Lucas Mota rebounded with a 1-over 72 following the opening round 77. Mota tied for 44th at 5-over 149. Through 36 holes, Mota was 3-under par on the Par 5s.
On Monday, Claes Borregaard tied for 62nd while Yuya Eguchi tied for 82nd.
Evan Thompson placed 92nd ending with 80-77 playing as an individual.
“Nice work today by Hugo and Shaun leading us and finding themselves in contention after 36 holes,” head coach Bryant Odom said. “I am proud of Lucas as he bounced back from a tough start this morning and posted a solid round this afternoon. If we can get all five players contributing deep into the round we can move up the leaderboard tomorrow.”
On Tuesday, Sept. 27, the men’s golf team tied for 12th place during the final round at the J.T. Poston Invitational at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley.
Kennesaw State was carded a 22-over par 306. KSU finished at 32-over par 884.
One of the Owls’ top finishers for the invitational was Lari. Lari tied for ninth at 1-over par 214 and carded a 3-over par 74. The event ended with Lari receiving 31 pars and 12 birdies. Lari led the field in par 5’s scoring at 5-under par.
Another Owl that made quite the mark was Cook on Tuesday. Cook finished with pars on six out of his final eight holes. He also shot a 6-over par 77 on Tuesday. Cook tied for 31st at 6-over par 219.
The Owls will travel to Spartanburg S.C. to compete in the Carolina Cup at the Carolina Country Club which will be hosted by ASUN opponent Wofford.
