Within the last month, students living in Kennesaw State’s on-campus housing gained access to a new Wi-Fi network, which was contracted through Apogee Solutions Inc.
“The Marietta Campus communities had previously never had wireless connectivity, and this upgrade provided increased internet speeds for residents on the Kennesaw Campus,” KSU Executive Director of Housing and Residence Life Jenny Cotton said.
The new Wi-Fi is part of KSU’s effort to improve internet access for students. KSU students are supposedly able to connect up to 20 devices via the new network, called MyResNet, Cotton said.
“They can use seven of these devices simultaneously without experiencing a decrease in their internet speeds,” Cotton said.
Students have the option to call, chat with, text or email ResNet for 24/7 Wi-Fi connectivity support.
KSU’s Housing and Residence Life website explains that the goal for the new Wi-Fi network is to provide “state-of-the-art amenities” without increasing the cost.
Students who live on campus currently do not pay an additional fee for Wi-Fi.
“Housing and Residence Life installed new Wi-Fi in all on-campus communities for the 2019-20 academic year without increasing the cost of living for any community,” Brown said.
Student concerns over residential Wi-Fi have been a major issue in the KSU community. In a Sentinel opinion article from this semester, Wi-Fi connectivity problems are among the issues that KSU students living on campus often lament.
When asked about Wi-Fi issues students faced, Brown said that the new Wi-Fi company has been quick to resolve any problems.
“During [this] Spring semester, there was an isolated connectivity issue due to a power outage on campus, which was restored once the power came back on,” Cotton said. “Apogee has received some individual reports of connectivity issues but all were resolved.”
If students who live in on-campus housing are facing Wi-Fi connectivity issues, they should contact Apogee Network Solutions for support or complete a work order, Cotton said.
