Kennesaw State selected former Interim Dean of the Michael J. Coles College of Business Robin Cheramie as dean of the college Thursday, Feb. 6.
KSU President Dr. Pamela Whitten and Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Kathy Schwaig chose Cheramie as dean.
“Dr. Cheramie has a proven record as a leader who is deeply committed to the student-centered and research mission of the University,” Whitten said, according to KSU News. “She is the ideal person to take the Coles College of Business to the next level,” Whitten said.
Cheramie reports directly to the provost of the university and is the head administrative and academic officer for Coles College, Schwaig said.
“The dean represents Coles to the broader Kennesaw State community and to external stakeholders, including alumni, donors and business leaders,” Schwaig said. “The dean takes the lead in strategic planning and in solidifying and implementing the vision, mission and goals for the college.”
Cheramie served as interim dean of Coles College since February 2019, according to KSU News. As interim dean, she was the chief overseer to helping Coles become reaccredited in January.
“My goal is to continue to build on our quality programs to increase the reputation of our programs both nationally and internationally which will enhance our student opportunities in the workforce,” Cheramie said.
Committees comprised of KSU students, staff and faculty are appointed to select new deans, Schwaig said. Once the list of candidates is narrowed down, nominees present to members of the committee, who are typically constituents of that college.
The president and provost make their final decision on dean based on feedback from the committee.
Before becoming interim dean, Cheramie was the director of Coles College’s Michael A. Leven School of Management, Entrepreneurship and Hospitality, according to KSU News. She also served as chair of the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship.
During Cheramie’s time as chair, the first Bachelor of Business Administration in entrepreneurship degree within the University System of Georgia was created. She also helped begin the BBA in Hospitality Management program at KSU.
Cheramie has done research and written articles within the Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Human Relations, Journal of Managerial Psychology, Career Development International and International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management, according to KSU News.
She has served on the Southern Management Association’s Board of Governors, where she has presented her research. She is additionally a member of the Academy of Management, the Society for Human Resource Management, the Cobb Chamber of Commerce and the Sandy Springs Perimeter Chamber.
Cheramie has a Bachelor of arts in management from Southeastern Louisiana University, a Master of business administration from the University of New Orleans and a Ph.D. in business administration from Louisiana State University, according to KSU News.
Joining KSU in 2004 as an assistant professor of management, Cheramie was promoted to professor of management in 2015.
