Kennesaw State sent out an alert to the KSU community on Monday, Oct. 1, at approximately 4:16 a.m. stating that four armed suspects involved in an off-campus incident fled the scene and abandoned their vehicle on the Kennesaw campus.
The suspects were reportedly involved in burglary and a police shootout Monday morning at the Texaco station on the corner of Moon Station and Jiles roads near the Kennesaw campus, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The AJC reported that police stopped at the Texaco after hearing a burglary alarm sound. After the police entered the station, the suspects started shooting at the officers.
The police returned fire, but the suspects were still able to flee the scene in a vehicle, according to the AJC. None of the officers involved in the shootout were injured. Police followed the vehicle, but eventually lost sight of the suspects.
The suspects reportedly left the vehicle on campus near the East Parking Deck on Frey road, according to KSU’s alert.
The alert stated that KSU police are unsure in what direction the suspects fled, and they began searching the campus and surrounding areas to make sure the suspects were still not on campus Monday morning.
KSU sent another alert at approximately 7 a.m. informing the KSU community that they believe the campus is safe.
“KSU Police has checked the campus with no contact and feel it is safe for normal operations,” the alert reads. “KSU Police has increased patrols, please continue to be vigilant and report any suspicious persons/activity to University Police.”
The GBI is currently investigating the incident and is searching for the four suspects.
