The Board of Regents named Dr. Pamela Whitten the new president of Kennesaw State University in a unanimous vote on Tuesday, June 12.
The decision came shortly after the BOR held a conference call, where they conducted the vote for KSU’s new president. Whitten will assume her new position July 16, according to a press release.
“It is an honor and privilege to join the KSU community,” Whitten said. “I am thrilled to be able to partner with the entire owl nation to champion our students, faculty and staff across Georgia and beyond.”
The BOR named Whitten as the sole finalist for KSU’s presidency during a conference call meeting on June 5. The Presidential Search and Screen Committee later invited Whitten to visit both KSU campuses and engage faculty, staff and students in an open forum.
“Dr. Whitten brings a deep commitment toward building an outstanding academic experience for students, as well as uncompromising dedication toward quality research and leadership that will serve KSU and its community well,” said Steve Wrigley, chancellor of the University System of Georgia.
Whitten currently serves as provost and vice president of academic affairs at the University of Georgia. Prior to UGA in 2014, she also served as director for telemedicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center and later as dean of the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University.
Whitten holds a Ph.D. in communication studies from the University of Kansas, a master’s in organizational communication from the University of Kentucky and a bachelor of science in management from Tulane University.
