The Kennesaw State women’s lacrosse team started its season over the weekend with two losses at home, coming up short 14-6 to Arizona State and 18-14 to Vanderbilt.
Trailing 6-4 behind the Sun Devils at halftime of the opening match on Friday, Feb. 9, the Owls found the second half to be more difficult. ASU’s defense pushed the Owls further from the goal. The Owls only scored two more points for the remainder of the game.
Siena Gore and Izzy Palermo were the joint top-scorers for the Owls with two unassisted goals each. Goalie Lauren Hoffman had a positive performance with 11 saves, but the aggressive Sun Devil offense proved to be too much.
On Sunday, Feb. 1, the Owls put up a fight against Vanderbilt, losing by just four points. Siena Gore performed well again with a game-high four goals out of the total 14 goals in the game.
The Owls fell behind quickly in the first half, going down 6-1 just 10 minutes in. They caught up quickly, however, ending the first half with a score of 10-8.
Trying to keep up in the second half, the Owls scored six more points in the game and narrowed the lead to two. The Commodores managed to escape with a victory, but the Owls showed vast improvement from the first game and were always a threat.
The next game will be on Sunday, Feb. 18, at 1 p.m. at Marquette University.
