For the second time in a month, a Kennesaw State fraternity has been suspended amid allegations of misconduct.
The Division of Student Affairs issued a cease and desist order to the Eta Delta chapter of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity on Oct. 26 for allegations that its members violated the university’s student code of conduct.
No details have been made available about the alleged violation, except that officials believe it occurred on or around Oct. 25.
The fraternity will be temporarily banned from carrying on normal chapter activities while the university works with the fraternity’s national office to address the misconduct.
“The safety of our students is our primary responsibility, and we educate all of our student organizations about the University’s expectations and hold them accountable if they fail to meet those expectations,” said K.C. White, vice president for student affairs, in a statement.
“Any behavior which threatens the safety of the members of our campus community is of great concern, and we will hold individuals and organizations accountable,” White added.
University spokeswoman Tammy DeMel said that officials are unable to confirm at this time if the alleged violations were related to hazing.
Pi Kappa Phi is the second fraternity to be suspended in the last month. The Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity was issued its own cease and desist for misconduct in early October. DeMel said that investigation is still underway.
“We are working through the process as outlined in our student code of conduct to ensure that all parties are provided due process,” she said.
The suspension comes nearly three years after members of Pi Kappa Phi were discovered chanting the names of the fraternity’s founding fathers inside KSU’s underground sewer system in the late hours of an evening in March 2015.
The Pi Kappa Phi house is located on the Marietta campus.
