A vehicle at an off-campus apartment complex was vandalized with racial slurs this past weekend, according to a recent email.
A male resident of the Colonial Grand at Shiloh discovered the hood and sides of his grey Scion TC to be spray painted with red lettering, spelling out a racial slur. The tires were also found to be deflated and windows smashed.
The victim has not yet been identified, and although Kennesaw State students live in the same complex, it is unclear whether he is a student. His license plate identifies him as an Iraq war veteran.
The vandalism is believed to have occurred between the night of Oct. 20 and the morning of Oct. 21. The perpetrator has yet to be identified.
The Colonial Grand at Shiloh has since released a statement, bringing awareness to the hate crime and calling for any details to identify the perpetrator.
“Until this incident, we have never had such an act,” management stated in the email. “This is not just an act against a vehicle. It is an act of hate that attacks the hearts and souls of all neighbors of a particular race in our neighborhood.”
This incident comes just weeks after KSU cheerleaders kneeled during the national anthem at a home football game. The cheerleaders were removed from the field in later games, sparking a series of protests that have since received national news coverage.
