Despite traveling over 1400 miles, the Kenesaw State volleyball team handled business on the road against NJIT Friday and USC Upstate Sunday.
The Owls’ defense took control of Friday’s matchup, holding NJIT to a 0.00 hitting percentage on the night. They forced 24 errors and only gave up 24 kills.
The quick travel from New Jersey to North Carolina didn’t affect the Owls, as they had another stellar defensive outing against Upstate. The Owls held Upstate to a .076 hitting percentage.
Senior Anaiah Boyer led the team in kills both nights with 12 on Friday and 16 on Sunday.
Junior Sydni Shelton led the team in kills with 15 and two other players also finished with a double-digit kill performance against Upstate. This should play a big part in Friday’s upcoming match against North Florida. The Owls defeated the Ospreys 3-1 in their matchup earlier this season.
As long as KSU’s athletic hitters show up, they should easily dismantle the North Florida defense.
The next night, KSU will take on Jacksonville, the only team that it has lost to in the last 10 matches.
Jacksonville had a .322 hitting percentage in that match and had four players with double-digit kills. They have a very balanced offensive attack, so limiting them will be a challenge for KSU.
The Owls will need to bring the same defensive intensity they had this past weekend if they want to keep their winning streak going.
The next two matches will be the last home matches for KSU this season, and the Owls have been undefeated at home.
