After winning its second straight ASUN Championship this past season, head coach Bryant Odom expects the Kennesaw State men’s golf team to pick up right where it left off.
The team welcomes back three members from last season’s championship squad: Connor Coffee, Jake Fendt and Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres. They overcame a six-stroke deficit to win the ASUN Championship this past April.
“We won the second ASUN Championship because of experience,” Odom said. “I told them that not everything goes according to plan, and they were able to handle the adversity.”
Coach Odom is thrilled to have talented redshirt junior Wyatt Larkin back this season. Larkin was held from competing for nine months because of a back injury. After rehabbing last year, he performed well in the Yamaha Atlanta Open, Georgia Open and Porter Cup.
“We’re excited to have him back,” Odom said. “He was so eager to compete that we even had to hold him back. He is just so dedicated and passionate about the game. He outperformed expectations — having him back is going to be big for us.”
KSU also welcomes two new freshmen in Brady Keran and Justin Kim, as well as experienced junior transfer Adam Morris from Dalton State College.
“We expect our new guys to contribute pretty soon,” Odom said. “We want impact players and we feel that we have some. Somebody is going to have to step in the rotation.”
Morris has two years of college-level competition under his belt, and coach Odom is pleased with Keran’s preseason performance thus far.
The season starts Sept. 8 at The Farm Golf Course in Rocky Face, Georgia, for the Carpet Capital Collegiate hosted by Georgia Tech.
“It’s always good to open up right in our home state,” Odom said. “We want to get started right where we left off in the spring. It’ll be good to get tested early during the season.”
