Since the appointment of Sam Olens, interim President Houston Davis has applied for a permanent president position at the University of Central Arkansas, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported Oct. 12.

UCA is seeking to replace its current president, Tom Courtway, before he retires in the beginning of 2017, according to Arkansas Business.

The university has received 37 total applications for the position, and the selection committee has already narrowed down its search to eight applicants, including Davis.

The committee plans to interview the candidates in Dallas, Texas, on Oct. 19 and Oct. 20.

Davis took over as the interim president of Kennesaw State University on July 1 of this year, immediately following the sudden retirement of Daniel S. Papp. Davis made several changes in his short time in office, including firing several members of the president’s cabinet and appointing interim positions.

KSU’s next president, Sam Olens, assumes his role on Nov. 1.
