As a part of the homecoming festivities, Kennesaw State University’s Alumni Association hosted a Student Open House Thursday, Oct. 13.
While few students attended, the alumni in the office expressed their hopes that current students will take advantage of the connections to be made there.
“My goal is to figure out, how do we get more students here and interacting with the alumni,” said Ama Economy, the newly appointed associate director of Alumni Engagement. “We want them to feel like they can come and interact and get to do that networking, because that piece is so important.”
In preparation for the open house, the “Diversity Collection,” created by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, was moved to the alumni house to be put on display for students.
The exhibit highlights the history of diversity at KSU, along with staff and faculty — called Diversity Advocates — that have impacted serious changes to the school and its policies.
“After the exhibit opened, we decided that it would be a great way to sort of incorporate [the history of KSU] into our homecoming events,” said Pierrette Maillet, the director of Alumni Relations.
The “Diversity Collection” was originally on display in the Social Sciences Building in the spring of 2016 and has since been housed in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
“The open house was really geared towards inviting students to come see where the alumni house is,” Maillett said. “A lot of students I don’t think are aware of what it even means to be an alum of a university, but that the university wants to stay connected with you once you’ve already graduated.”
