An officer followed a vehicle Sept. 4 that smelled of marijuana as it passed by, and the traffic stop led to an arrest.
Around 7:45 p.m., the campus police officer noticed the smell became stronger and initiated a traffic stop.
The officer came across three males in the car that appeared to be nervous about the situation, according to the police report.
After explaining why he pulled them over, the officer asked if there were any illegal drugs in the vehicle, and the driver stated there wasn’t any. After a search began, one of the males spoke up and told the officer that there was a bag marijuana in his pocket.
In the vehicle a box of cigarettes was found with a dollar bill rolled up inside and a plastic bag with a white powder that was confirmed as cocaine.
All of the suspects remained silent when asked who owned the cocaine. After the officer explained that charges would be pressed against all three of them if no ownership was taken, one of the males quickly took responsibility.
He privately told the officer that he knew he was already in trouble for marijuana in his pocket, so he wanted to take the blame for the sake of his friends.
The brave man was placed under arrest for possession of cocaine while his two friends were released from the scene.
