The National Pan-Hellenic Council held its semi-annual convocation Wednesday, Aug. 31.
According to the Kennesaw State Greek website the event sold out in the Convocation Center on the Kennesaw campus, and people were referred to a waiting list. This was the first year in which interested parties had to pay to participate in the convocation.
Unlike the NPHC’s previous events, this convocation required an RSVP to attend. It was also more formal, requiring the attendees to dress in business or professional attire.
Attending convocation is the first step in continuing the member intake process for NPHC organizations. Additionally, students must have at least a 2.65 GPA and be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours.
The event began promptly at 6:40 p.m. with a presentation about Greek life at KSU as well as NPHC and the organizations that fall under it.
“This is NPHC 101, and the goal of this is to just give you more perspective on the experience of a Greek person here at KSU,” said Ryan Camon, the coordinator of Fraternity and Sorority Life. “You can have a 4.0 [GPA], have all the involvement and still not be chosen. These are exclusive organizations, and they have the right to deny you.”
After the presentation, the audience split into groups. Each group was directed by a leader who was either a council member or leader in their respective organization. These breakout sessions gave attendees an opportunity to learn more about each individual organization.
Following the group session, participants interacted with member of fraternities and sororities during the event’s closing ceremony.
