From News Reports – The Moyers Competition Bar-B-Q team claimed the title of Grand Champion for the second time in three years at a Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) sanctioned competition held Friday and Saturday, August 26-27 during the 16th annual City of Kennesaw’s Pigs & Peaches BBQ Festival presented by Superior Plumbing. The team based out of Northwest Georgia also won in 2014.
As Grand Champion, the Moyers team won $2,500 cash, a Primo ceramic grill with accessories, a one-of-a-kind ceramic trophy, as well as bragging rights in what was also a Georgia State Championship event. The team took home an additional $600 cash and prizes in other judging categories, including 3th place in pork ribs and 3rd place in beef brisket.
Contagious Q was the Grand Reserve Champion (runner-up), taking home $1,500 cash and a ceramic trophy. The team also took home an additional $300, placing 3rd in the chicken category.
The 1st place winners in each of the four professional categories were as follows: Chicken – Swine & Shine BBQ; Pork Ribs – Que’n Stew’n & Brew’n; Pork- Road Warriors; Beef Brisket – Swine & Shine BBQ. Each category winner received $500 cash and a ceramic trophy.
The Fat Guyz won the Backyard BBQ Contest, an amateur cook-off event. In addition to $500 cash and a ceramic trophy, the team received a Landmann gas smoker.
In the ancillary categories, Major Q BBQ won the Anything Butt Contest; RentBBQ.com won the Peach Dessert Contest. Each team received $200 cash and a ceramic trophy. Fourteen-year-old Bailey Rhodes of Kennesaw won the inaugural Kids’ Que Cook-off, taking home a $50 Whole Foods Market gift card, a Weber Smokey Joe charcoal grill and a prize trophy.
A total of 51 cooking teams competed at the festival. Certified KCBS judges evaluated the entries. Contest results can be found at pigsandpeaches.com.
