“Lila & Eve” is a 2015 drama starring Jennifer Lopez and Viola Davis as two mothers struggling to cope with the death of their two children.
With the police department brushing the case to the side and labeling it as nothing but gang violence, Lila takes matters into her own hands to discover who killed her oldest son, Stephan. With the help of Eve, Lila uncovers more about Stephan’s case in a matter of days than the police force has done in over a month.
Because of the few ratings I saw of the movie prior to watching, I was not expecting the actresses to be convincing enough for their roles. In my opinion, Lopez and Davis executed their roles as grief stricken mothers impressively. The raw emotion of the film was captivating, and I even caught my eyes watering up during a scene or two.
On the downside, the plot was very exaggerated. Several events, specifically murders, occurred in the movie that were absurd, so it countered the brilliant emotion of the film. I was also disappointed in how rushed the ending felt. All this action had built up, just to be “resolved” in a matter of minutes.
The film definitely kept me on my toes. It was incredibly fast paced and I kept my eyes glued to the screen. The plot twist made me gasp, so I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone interested in a female vigilante thriller.
